Ava (Simone Johnson) Announces Departure From WWE

January 30, 2026 — WWE today confirms that Ava, widely known as the General Manager of NXT and born Simone Johnson, has elected not to renew her contract with the company and is departing WWE, concluding her tenure with the global sports entertainment organization. Fighhtful

In a statement shared on her official Instagram account, Ava expressed her gratitude to fans and reflected on her journey with WWE. “This past Tuesday was my last appearance on NXT & subsequently WWE,” she wrote. “Thank you to all who have cheered, watched, and supported me through my journey. While my decision to not renew my contract was very difficult, it’s also a new turning point in my life. It has been an honor & a privilege to be Ava.” Fightful

Simone Johnson first joined WWE in February 2020, reporting to the WWE Performance Center as part of the company’s developmental program. Her signing was a historic milestone, marking her as the first fourth-generation professional wrestler in WWE history, following her father Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, her grandfather Rocky Johnson, and her great-grandfather High Chief Peter Maivia.

She made her televised debut on NXT on October 25, 2022, aligning with the faction The Schism under the ring name Ava Raine, later shortened to Ava. She transitioned into an authority role following the faction’s dissolution and was appointed General Manager of NXT on January 23, 2024, becoming the youngest individual in WWE history to hold that position.

During her leadership of NXT, Ava oversaw numerous brand initiatives and storylines, including the announcement of the NXT Women’s North American Championship, expanding opportunities within the women’s division.

WWE thanks Ava for her contributions to the company and wishes her continued success in her future endeavors.
